  • About...
  • Teavana® might just literally be THE most expensive tea on the planet...

  • ...so, why do I go to their stores and buy their tea?

  • Because it's the best tea! (Try it and you'll agree...)

  • This recipe is a combination of two of their teas:

  • Roobios Tropica...

    Rooibos Tropica

  • ...and Jasmine Dragon Pearls

    Jasmine Dragon Pearls

  • You can serve this hot (as it will be after steeping obviously),
but I recommend serving it COLD (during warmer months...)

  • This recipe will yield 1 gallon of Teavana®

  • Ingredients & Equipment:
  • 15 teaspoons (1/3 cup or 3 oz.) Rooibos Tropica tea by Teavana®

    Rooibos Tropica

  • 4 teaspoons of Teavana® Jasmine Dragon Pearls

    Black Dragon Pearl

  • 1 cup (8 oz. = ½ lb.) German Rock Cane Sugar by Teavana®

    German Rock Cane Sugar

  • Tea kettle (for boiling water)

    Tea kettle

  • 2 teapots for steeping each tea separately

    Teapot

  • 1 gallon juice container

  • A strainer (for the tea)

    Tea strainer

  • A long teaspoon (for measuring)

  • A long, wooden ladle (for stirring)

  • Pot holders (to place the jug of tea on as well as for both teapots)

  • A couple of paper towels (for any tea that drips onto the counter)

  • 2 timers (such as your microwave and on your oven) for proper steep time

  • Measuring cup (for the exact amount of water for each teapot)

Neon Cup

  • Preparation:
  • Fill tea kettle with water and heat on high...do NOT boil!

  • Put 4½ teaspoons of the Rooibos Tropica in one teapot...

  • Put 3 teaspoons of the Dragon Pearls in the other teapot...

  • When the tea kettle is at a steady rumble,
remove from heat and using your measuring cup,
pour 3 cups (24 oz.) of water into each teapot...

  • Set one timer for 6 minutes (to steep the Rooibos Tropica)
and another for just 2 minutes (to steep the Dragon Pearls)

  • Immediately fill the tea kettle with more water but do not put it back on the stove yet...

  • The timer for the Dragon Pearls will go off first...so, open its teapot and stir it
(notice the pearls are all unwound and expanded!); now (using the tea strainer),
carefully pour it into the 1 gallon container...

  • Now, add a couple more pearls to this teapot and return the tea kettle to the stove
and turn the heat on high again.

  • When the timer for the Rooibos Tropica goes off,
stir that teapot and pour it into the container...

  • ...Quickly rinse out all the tea from this teapot
and add 4½ teaspoons more Rooibos tropica:

  • The water in the kettle should be rumbling again: Time to begin round 2!

  • Continue with the same procedure as you did before to prepare a 3rd batch...

  • ...Essentially, you are steeping 3 cups per teapot of tea 3 times; however:

  • You can reuse the Dragon pearls for all 3 batches
(I just add a couple new pearls each time)

  • Don't forget: Do NOT let the water get to boiling (whistling) temperature!
Remember that the Rooibos Tropica gets steeped for 6 minutes,
and the Dragon Pearls get steeped for 2 minutes each batch!

  • When all 3 batches have been added to the 1 gallon container,
you should clean up using the paper towels,
and you can clean the teapots and put them away...

  • The 1 gallon container should be almost full, so add 4 oz. (½ cup)
of the rock sugar and stir using the wooden ladle:
Stir thoroughly by making sure it does not spill.
but also that the sugar gets moved around the whole container
    and not just the bottom...

  • When the sugar seems to have melted,
taste it and add up to 4 oz. (½ cup)
more of it and continue stirring until it is melted...

  • Now, place the lid on the container and wait until it is at room temperature,
then refrigerate overnight to completely chill it:
I suggest placing it towards the back of your top shelf
(where it is coldest and closest to the source of coolness...)

  • Next: Serve in a tall glass or tumbler
(plastic travel variety for cold drinks because it is 2 layers with a plastic straw) and enjoy!
